OSCE chief censures acts of terrorism in Chechnya

The current head of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Netherlandish Foreign Minister Jaap de Hoop Scheffer has censured recent acts of terrorism in Chechnya, which brought about lots of casualties among the peaceful population. A relevant letter published in the OSCE secretariat's official report in Vienna has been sent by De Hoop Scheffer to his Russian counterpart Igor Ivanov.

This letter says in part that the news about the recent two acts of terrorism committed by Islamic kamikazes in Chechnya shocked him and filled with compassion for the innocent people who fell victim to it.

De Hoop Scheffer expressed hopes that these acts would not interfere with the Russian leaders' efforts to restore peaceful and stable life in Chechnya.

The letter also says that the OSCE is prepared to render comprehensive assistance to peaceful settlement in Chechnya in accordance with an agreement reached by the Russian authorities and the OSCE chairman.
