1st European Judo Junior Championship Takes Start Yerevan

A first judo European junior championship opened in Armenia's capital today. More than twenty national federations have confirmed participation, Alexan Avetisyan, the host country's Judo Federation President, said to RIA Novosti before the opening gala.

Four teams - Georgian, Romanian, Russian and Ukrainian - are competing in full, seven boys and seven girls in each.

Two endearing lion cubs - one in a white kimono, the other in blue - are contest mascots.
