Moscow ready to continue dialogue with present administration of Madagascar

Moscow is ready to continue the dialogue with the present Malagasy administration in the interests of the peoples of Russia and Madagascar. This was stated on Monday by official spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Yakovenko.

"The diplomatic relations between Russia and Madagascar have not been broken. Thus, we are maintaining relations with the present Malagasy administration which maintains real control in the capital and in a greater part of the territory of the country," said the Russian diplomat.

He underscored "the traditionally friendly character" of relations between the two countries. According to the diplomat, "Russia's approaches to Madagascar have not changed either since the appearance there of the internal political crisis in December 2001." Moscow proceeds from the fact that the formation of bodies of power is the internal matter of every country. For this reason, Russia maintains relations with that government which is in power and which leads the state that has been officially recognised by Moscow, pointed out the spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
