44 bodies of Russia's crash victims identified

The bodies of 44 victims of the plane collision above Germany have undergone forensic study, a source in the chief police office of Baden-Wuerttemburg said by telephone.

According to the source, one body was identified "with a high degree of certainty." However, police would not disclose the name of the victim, saying they were waiting for results of a comprehensive analysis, including a DNA test.

The tragedy occurred on the night of July 2nd above Germany's Boden See area. Russia's Tu-154 jet belonging to Bashkir Airlines and a Boeing-757 cargo jet belonging to the DHL company crashed into each other at an altitude of 11,000 meters. The crash killed the 12 crew and 57 passengers on board the Tu-154 and the 2 pilots on board the Boeing. Of the passengers, 52 were children headed for a summer vacation in Spain.
