Chairman of the State Commission of Russia for the Transdniester Settlement Yevgeny Primakov has ended his visit to Moldavia and flew to Vienna. (The Transdniester region in Moldavia has proclaimed itself a sovereign republic after the disintegration of the USSR). As the Russian Embassy in Chisinau reported, in the OSCE headquarters Yevgeny Primakov will continue consultations on the Transdniester settlement. In the course of his visit to Moldavia Yevgeny Primakov met with the officials who dealt with the final solution of the Dniester area problem. Yevgeny Primakov noted that he gained the impression from his conversations in Chisinau and Tiraspol that the sides "have a desire to meet each other halfway and to reach an agreement." He also expressed the hope that the efforts, being made by Russia, would help conduct this negotiation process.
