Vladimir Putin: Russia Will Not Change Its Stance On 1972 ABM Treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed Russia's stance on the 1972 ABM Treaty. At the joint press conference with the US President, the head of the Russian state said that Moscow views this treaty as "an important factor of stability in the world." This statement was made by President Putin when he was commenting on George W. Bush's words that the ABM Treaty is "dangerous" for the current international situation. "We do agree that we should look into the future and adequately react to possible threats in the future," Mr. Putin stressed. According to him, Russia "is prepared to discuss this issue with the United States, obviously, given that we are provided with appropriate parameters." In his turn Mr. Bush said at the press conference that the 1972 ABM Treaty is "outdated and even dangerous."
