Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Mamedov Meets Latin American Ambassadors

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Mamedov has discussed with Latin American ambassadors coordination of efforts in the struggle against international terrorism, it was said on Thursday in the Russian Foreign Ministry's press and information department. Mamedov informed the diplomats of Russia's principled and consistent policy of countering global extremism of all hues in conditions of globalisation. In the Russian diplomat's opinion, it is necessary to unite the efforts of the world community in the fight against international terrorism - "whether it is in Afghanistan or in any other place or region - on the basis of resolutions 1368 and 1373 of the UN Security Council." The participants in the meeting favoured more active cooperation between Russia and Latin American states in countering terrorism and other global challenges of the 21st century, including within the UN and regional organisations of the Western Hemisphere countries - the RIO Group, OAS, and MERCOSUR. The ambassadors supported the Russian initiative to form under UN aegis a global system of countering new threats and risks. The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of Guatemala, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador and also charge d'affaires of Argentine and Venezuela, the Foreign Ministry said.
