Abkhaz Parliament Asks Russia To Raise Question Of Georgia's Stance On Global Crackdown On Terrorism, In UN SC

On Wednesday morning, the Parliament of Abkhazia (self-proclaimed republic on Georgia's territory) sent an appeal to the Russian State Duma (Lower House of Parliament) requesting Russia to initiate in the UN Security Council the examination of the issue of Georgia's position in the struggle against international terrorism. RIA Novosti learned this from Tatyana Guliya, press-secretary of the Abkhaz representation in Moscow. "Taking into account that Russia is mediator in the Georgian-Abkhaz settlement," the parliament of the self-proclaimed republic "requests to demand that the Georgian side meet its commitments on the non-use of force and return to the peaceful political settlement," says the document. Abkhaz parliamentarians believe that "the matter concerns the actual failure of Georgia in the peaceful settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict and the launching of large-scale military actions." The events of the past few days "irrefutably evidence that the Georgian leadership, while paying lip-service to its anti-terror struggle, actually turns a blind eye to the fact that international terrorists are being trained on its territory,' says the appeal.
