Tajik President: Illegal Drug Trafficking To Be Fought By Joint Efforts Only

It is possible to effectively counter illegal drug trafficking that has become "a global threat to the entire world community and every country in particular only by joint actions of all countries and international organizations." This is a quote from President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmonov's address to delegates of the annual meeting of Memorandum on Understanding and Cooperation on Drug Control in Central Asia member-states. The meeting opened Monday in Dushanbe. Its participants are foreign ministers and envoys of the memorandum member-states. Mr. Rakhmonov reminded that at the 20th special session of the UN General Assembly, Tajikistan came out with a proposal to establish an anti-drug "security corridor" around Afghanistan. The solution of this issue "is a major element in providing for our countries' security and protection from this evil," read the message. It is expected that by the end of the meeting, its participant will sign a joint declaration urging to intensify cooperation in fighting illegal drug trafficking and drug addiction.
