Mikhail Gorbachev For Creating New World Order

A second part of the international conference devoted to consolidation of democracy and organized by the Gorbachev Foundation jointly with the Spanish Fund of International Relations and Dialogue with Other Countries (FRIDE) opened in Madrid on Thursday. First USSR president Mikhail Gorbachev in his speech at the opening of the conference came out for the creation of a new world order based on the recognized UN standards. The first part of this conference, in which about a hundred of experts well known in the world from 30 countries took part, was opened by Spanish foreign Minister Josep Pique who said that democracy should help overcome the dangerous gap which exists between the industrialised countries and those which live in poverty and lawlessness because this gap "creates tension which engenders terrorism". Forty former and present heads of state, including, besides Gorbachev, Bill Clinton, Felipe Gonsalez, Mario Soares, Eduardo Frei and other well-known figures take part in the second part of the conference. Chairman of the Spanish government Jose Maria Aznar is expected to address the conference on Friday. Head of the Spanish state, King Juan Carlos will solemnly close the conference on Saturday.
