Georgia: Embassy Doesn't Recruit Afghan Vets

The US Embassy to Georgia flatly denies media rumours of the Administration authorising American legations to recruit Afghan war veterans abroad. Neither the US Administration nor the State Department have ever intended to recruit Afghan veterans in post-Soviet countries, so whatever contract offers on US official behalf may come up are sheer swindles, say ambassadorial PR. Georgia's Afghan Veteran Council activists addressed the embassy early in October to offer service as military experts, an embassy officer said to RIA Novosti. Another man made a phone call to the embassy a few days ago, saying he was a Georgian military officer on active service. He asked whether America wanted fighters experienced in Afghan warfare. No contracts were offered to any of the volunteers--they only got thanks for support, said our interviewee.
