South Africa: Castration for rapists

Two horrific rapes on two baby girls of five and nine months, respectively, in which both girls were left with serious internal injuries, have led to the Association of Traditional Leaders to request the government to hold a referendum on the reintroduction of the death penalty.

On Thursday, the New National party submitted a law to be considered by the regional parliament of Gauteng, calling for “more appropriate measures” to be taken against rapists, including castration.
