Adverse Weather Completely Turned Over Vladimir Putin's Plans To Visit The Saint Athos Mountain

Adverse weather conditions in Northern Greece completely spoiled plans of the Russian President to visit on Saturday the Saint Athos mountain, a centuries old Orthodox monks republic. According to the information from the President's press service, Vladimir Putin's visit to Athos will already, hardly, take place. Strong gusty, sometimes squally wind has been blowing in the Athos area all previous night and this Saturday morning. Biting snow is falling. In the mountains in the heart of the Athos peninsula there is a heavy mist. Such weather conditions make the trip to Athos unsafe, taking into account that the Russian President planned to go there by helicopter. Vladimir Putin was supposed to visit Karea, the capital of Athos, where Kinot (the government of Athos) was situated as well as the Saint Andrei small and secluded monastery formerly belonging to Russian monks. The heavy mist makes Karea unattainable. The major event within the framework of the planned President's visit to Athos was to become the visit to the Russian Saint Panteleimon monastery which for the last 9 centuries had been the centre of Russian monks' life on Athos. Russian monks received with submission the news about the cancellation of Vladimir Putin's visit to them. They were saying that "everything was in God's will and one should thank God for everything, be it joys or sorrows".
