In Luanda Igor Ivanov To Discuss Problems Of An Inner-Angolan Settlement And Russia's Assistance In It

Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs will arrive in Angola on Thursday morning to pay an official visit. As official spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Yakovenko said in an interview given to RIA Novosti, during the negotiations in Luanda "the sides will discuss in detail the issues of an inner-Angolan settlement and assistance to it on part of Russia as a member of the Group of Three Countries-Observers and a permanent member of the UN Security Council. It is expected that in the conversations between Igor Ivanov and Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos an emphasis will be laid on the importance of intensifying political cooperation in the problems of strategic stability. The Russian minister intends, according to Yakovenko, also to touch upon the necessity of intensifying the central role of the United Nations, overcoming the negative consequences of globalisation, and settling and preventing regional conflicts in close coordination with implementing the programme - New Partnership for Africa (NEPAD). Russia, said the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, positively assessed the NEPAD concept at the latest summit of the Group of Eight Countries and also supported the Genoa Plan for Africa. The full text of Alexander Yakovenko's interview will be available on the RIA Novosti site: www.rian.ru.
