International Conference On Countering Terrorism Held In Kirghizia

The participants in the OSCE international conference Strengthening of Security and Stability in Central Asia: Intensification of All-Embracing Efforts to Combat Terrorism, which is being held in Kirghizia's capital Bishkek will discuss struggle against terrorism and the questions of blocking the financing of international terrorist groups. The report circulated by the OSCE centre in Kirghizia says that "the Bishkek conference will become the first step toward implementing the Bucharest plan of action" worked out at the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the OSCE member countries in the capital of Romania early December. The conferees will also discuss issues of establishing democratic institutions in the countries of Central Asia, their stable economic development, and the role of civil society in countering terrorism. Delegations from fifty countries of the world, among them Russia, the USA, China, Great Britain and Germany, as well as of 21 international organisations, including NATO, the IAEA, the IMF and Interpol, are to participate in the conference. The Bishkek conference is being held at Hayatt hotel in the centre of the capital of Kirghizia. Tightened security measures have been taken and the passport regime has been intensified in Bishkek. The district of the city, adjoining the hotel, is patrolled by militia duties and by staffers of the National Security Service. By unofficial information, more than 2,500 law-enforcers are participating in the guard of the conference.
