Russian Humanitarian Convoy Crosses Tajik-Afghan Border

Russian border guards stationed in Tajikistan have waved a convoy carrying Russian humanitarian aid for Afghanistan through the Nizhny Panj frontier post. Yet another truck convoy carrying grain to Afghanistan under the United Nations International Food Program has been waved through the border section controlled by the Ishkashim border detachment. According to UN experts, 12 million Afghans -- which is almost half of the country's population -- suffer from shortage of drinking water, while 5-7 million need urgent food aid. With that in mind, the world community has been increasing daily deliveries of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
