EU Representative Says Bin Laden Must Face International, Not U.S. Trial

Osama bin Laden, the "terrorist #1", must face an international trial, not the US military tribunal, said Klaus-Peter Kleiber, the new European Union special representative for Afghanistan. Kleiber said, while speaking on a local TV channel in Berlin on Wednesday night, that terrorism is an international problem, therefore, it would be better if the judges for the bin Laden process came from different countries. The EU representative for Afghanistan added that the UN contingent in this country should "be small in the outset", stressing that "a great tact is necessary in this issue." Kleiber emphasized at the same time that "administration and economic structures" must be recovered in this country, devastated by the years-long war, as soon as possible.
