Afghan Interior Minister Pleased With Results Of Bonn Conference, While President Unsatisfied

Yunus Kanouni, the Interior Minister in the provisional government of Afghanistan, who represented the Northern Alliance at the Bonn conference, highly appreciated the agreements achieved there. On Thursday, the Kabul radio broadcast the minister's comments made on his coming back to Kabul. Kanouni gave this appraisal to the conference, while speaking to the Kabul establishment in his ministry the day before. Kanouni said that the agreements achieved were a crucial step not only on the way towards national concord, but also for ending up the international isolation of Afghanistan. The minister emphasised that all notes from the leaders of military-political movements within the Northern Alliance had been "taken into consideration and agreed on with Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani." According to Kanouni, the provisional government's makeup is "the most optimal, since it considers the interests of all leading Mujaheddin movements of Afghanistan. It is noteworthy that Kanouni delivered his speech at the ministry, while Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani was giving a press-conference to foreign journalists. Observers note that many of Kanouni's estimations are inconsistent with those of Rabbani, and even contradict them. For instance, Rabbani said the Bonn conference decisions were a foreign intervention into Afghanistan's domestic affairs.
