Uzbek President Believes That Afghans Can Settle Their Problems All By Themselves

Uzbek President Islam Karimov believes that the Afghan people can settle the situation in their country all by themselves following the principle "each field commander settles problems on his territory." Karimov thinks that none from the North will come to the South to maintain order, and the Northern Alliance will not march into Kandahar to settle Pashtun problems. According to the Uzbek President, "anyone who has enough authority should maintain peace and order on his own territory until the provisional government starts working." Karimov hopes that the Loya Jirga (Supreme Council) of the Afghan people will start working within 6 months and then, probably, "a new solution to the issue of maintaining peace and order in Afghanistan will be possible."
