German Chancellor On Bundeswehr's Participation In UN Military Contingent For Afghanistan

According to German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, the participation of the German Bundeswehr in the UN military contingent for Afghanistan depends on how the UN mandate for this mission is formulated. Appearing on Germany's ARD TV channel, Schroeder said it was important to "separate" the anti-Taliban military campaign in Afghanistan from the future UN mission, the purpose of which would be to "implement the decisions made during the conference on Afghan settlement recently held in the Petersberg residence outside Bonn."
