Another informal summit meeting of heads of CIS states to be held in Ukraine

The 4th informal summit meeting of heads of CIS states is expected to be held in late January in Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine (in the western part of the country).

According to the information provided on Wednesday by the press service of the Ukrainian President, the exact date of the "meeting without neckties" was being presently determined.

The headquarters of the CIS Executive committee in Minsk, in its turn, reported that the proposal to hold another informal summit meeting in Ukraine was put forward by Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma at the meeting of heads of CIS states on 7 October 2002 in Chisinau.

The Presidents are expected to continue in the Carpathian Mountains consideration of issues related to further development of cooperation within the CIS framework.

Let's recall that informal meetings of leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States do not stipulate signing of any interstate documents as well as no official agenda of meetings.

The previous extraordinary summit took place in March 202 on the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev at the mountain ski resort Chimbulak near Alma-Ata.

At that time all leaders of the CIS states arrived in Kazakhstan, with the exception of Azeri leader Geidar Aliyev who did not attend the meting due to health reasons.

As was expected, in the course of the meeting heads of states did pay attention to problems of the struggle against international terrorism, of transformation of the Commonwealth's bodies and interstate cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.

In particular, Presidents of Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenia and Uzbekistan adopted a joint statement on strategic partnership between gas companies of their countries in order to ensure stable shipments of the "blue fuel" to foreign and CIS markets.
