Russia-EU Brussel's Joint Statement May Be Annulled Lithuania Says

The joint statement made at the closing of the Russia-European Union in Brussels may be annulled. Such was the statement unexpectedly made at a press conference yesterday by Gyadiminas Shyaudvitis, Director of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry of Lithuania.

Mr. Shyaudvitis reminded that the resulting document of the Brussels summit reflected a package agreement, that is, if just one its provisions was violated, the whole deal was off.

The Lithuanian diplomat explained his statement by that the Foreign Ministry of Russia excessively delayed its decision to extend the network of Lithuania' consulates in the Kaliningrad Region, namely expand the Consulate General in Kaliningrad and open a new gonsulate in the town of Sovetsk, which, according to the Brussels document, should be done before this year is over. 'It has been over a month', Mr. Shyaudvitis said, 'and the matter is still where it was. Unless the matter is resolved before the end of this year, we will be simply forced to appeal accordingly to the leadership of the European Union.'
