Serbia is against the project of transforming the Kosovo protection corps into Kosovo defensive forces

The project of transforming the Kosovo protection corps into the Kosovo defensive forces is a dangerous provocation fraught with destabilisation of the situation not only in Kosovo and Metohia but also in the entire region. This is what chairman of the co-ordination centre for Kosovo and Metohia and vice-premier of the Serbian government Nebojsa Covic has said in an interview with the newspaper Vecerne Novosti.

He also said that the centre had a respective document confirming the existence of the project of the said transformation.

According to Covic, this project appeared contrary to the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 stipulating that the "Kosovo protection corps" must fulfil only humanitarian tasks and act in the event of natural and other similar disasters. However, some members of the corps have already had weapons for a long time and this organisation has held several exercises having nothing to do with the official designation of that formation, says the chairman of the co-ordination centre.

Covic further said that in compliance with the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 the international administration in Kosovo must control all the activities of various organisations, including the "Kosovo protection corps" headed by former general of the so-called Kosovo liberation army Agim Ceku.
