Russian Foreign Minister: international community shouldn't diminish its efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan

The international community shouldn't diminish its efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan, stated Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov. In his conversation with journalists on Friday after the talks with Afghani Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullo, Igor Ivanov pointed out that "this problem is for the most part solved", however, there are still forces within Afghanistan and beyond its borders, which would want to destabilize the situation in that country." Russian minister positively evaluated the role of international security assistance force in Afghanistan (ISAF). He said that their presence in Afghanistan was one of the issues discussed during the meeting of two foreign ministers. The issue of the deployment of those forces should be settled between Afghanistan and the UN, though, underlined Igor Ivanov.
