Russia, Lithuania Agree to Exchange Representative Offices of Their Railroads

According to the press service of the Ministry of Railroads of Russia, Gennady Fadeyev, the Minister of Railroads of Russia, and Jonas Birzhishkis, General Director of the Lithuanian Railroads, have signed an agreement on exchanging representative offices of the two countries' railroads. Yesterday, during their meeting, Mr. Fadeyev and Mr. Birzhishkis discussed the issues of cooperation, cargo tariff policies, and transit through the Republic of Lithuania.

Mr. Fadeyev noted a considerable growth of rail passenger traffic between the two countries. Over 150,000 railroad passengers traveled both ways over the past 7 months, passenger flow from Russia having increased by 41.3% and that from Lithuania by 5.2% year-on-year. The amount of cargoes transferred by the railroads to the seaports of the Kaliningrad Region increased by 692,000 tonnes or 21.3% year-on-year.

Besides, the Ministry of Railroads of Russia and the Lithuanian Railroads have entered into an agreement for the construction and joint use of a fiber-optic communications line through the Sovetsk-Pagetyai and Nesterov-Kibartai border crossings.
