Uzbek President proposes to reduce call-up period to one year

Speaking at the closing of the 9th session of the Uzbek Parliament Friday, Uzbek President Islam Karimov proposed to reduce the call-up period in the Uzbek army from 18 to 12 months.

Islam Karimov says that the experience of the developed countries shows that 12 month- call-up period is enough for the young man to acquire practical skills how to use state-of-the-art weapons and conduct combat in all seasons of the year, RIA Novosti reports.

The Uzbek President thinks the reduced call-up period will help to eliminate the problem of hazing in the Uzbek army and make the relations between the servicemen sounder.
