Norway's Delegation Arrives in Arkhangelsk to Discuss Northern Sea Corridor

A delegation of Norway headed by Olaf Berstad, the Ambassador of Norway in Charge of the Barents Sea issue, has arrived in Arkhangelsk to discuss the Northern Sea Corridor project.

According to the press service of the administration of the Arkhangelsk Region, the members of the delegation have met with Governor Anatoly Efremov and his deputy responsible for international connections, Mrs. Svetlana Gorlanova. Planned for tomorrow is a meeting with the Deputy Governor responsible for transportation and communications, Alexander Maksimov. Representatives from the Northern Sea Lines, Arkhangelsk seaport and the port's marine administration are expected to attend the meeting.

Actual work on the project is expected to begin this fall. At this time, Russia and Norway are discussing technical issues. The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of Norway, Kjell Magne Bondevik are expected to discuss the project during the summit meeting in Norway early next year.

The project is supposed to be financed by the European Union. So far money has come Belgium, Norway, and Iceland.
