WWII arms and ammunition cache discovered in Moldovan village

An arms and ammunition cache, which was set up during the World War II, has been discovered outside the Moldovan village of Baltsata. Over the past two days, combat engineers of the Moldovan National Army have found and defused 170 German-made shells.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Valery Rusu, the head of the Moldovan National Army press centre, the local authorities summoned the sappers to arrive when two local residents exploded on a mine.

According to Rusu, during World War II there were ammunition depots near the village, which the Germans abandoned when fleeing. Experts believe it will take combat engineers up to 10 weeks to sweep the area.
