Kazakhstan stands for setting up anti-drug trafficking center in Central Asia

Kazakh Interior Minister Kairbek Suleimenov announced at a Tuesday press conference that Kazakhstan called upon Uzbekistan, Kirghizia and Tajikistan to set up a Single Anti-Drug Trafficking Coordination Center. Mr. Suleimenov emphasized that during a session of the Kazakh Security Council devoted to drug trafficking fighting, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed that the Kazakh Foreign Ministry work out this issue.

Kairbek Suleimenov said that at present power departments of Kazakhstan were not satisfied with the level of coordination and interaction with his colleagues in other Central Asian countries aimed at drug trafficking fighting. According to Kairbek Suleimenov, "90 percent of all drugs going from Afghanistan to the West go via Central Asia." Mr. Suleimenov stressed that the border between Kazakhstan and Kirghizia is "transparent". "Difficulties that Kazakhstan is facing now in its drug distribution fighting are caused by a huge stream of illegal migrants," emphasized the minister. In this connection, Kazakhstan intends to reinforce border control measures. In particular, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry should consider the issue concerning border demarcation between Kazakhstan and Kirghizia soon, which will allow mobile groups to control the state border more efficiently.
