Belarussian President to Visit Bahrain and Kuwait

Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko is to pay official visits to Bahrain and Kuwait from October 26 to 29. During his visits he will meet the leaders of these countries. According to the Belarussian President's press service, Belarus sees these Arab states as potential partners for cooperation. Belarus is interested in supplying Bahrain with radio and electronic products, optical instruments, petrochemical and timber products, organic fertilizers, household appliances, and cars. Belarus would also like to 'develop tourism, and scientific and technical cooperation in the spheres of energy, and environmentally clean farming and industrial technology' together with Bahrain.

The Kuwaiti market 'is attractive and full of potential for Belarus due to its high purchasing power.' It also requires imports of a wide range of Belarussian products 'from cars and equipment to household appliances, clothes and food.'

According to the President's press service, Belarus' relations with Arab countries are generally characterised 'by a high level of political dialogue, successful cooperation in the trade and economic, scientific, technical and other sectors, and collaboration in international organisations.' In 2001 Belarus' trade with Arab states amounted to USD 112 million.
