Shakhrisabz Celebrates 2,700 Years

Due to the positive help of the renowned UNESCO, today the people of Uzbekistan are celebrating 2,700 years of old evergreen with stars and grand Hisav Mountain city Shakhrisabz, situated in Kashkadarya.

In the presence of twenty seven foreign diplomats and members of international organisations, Uzbek President Islam Karimov opened this function. In his speech, Mr. Karimov said that Shakhrisabz is a blessed place where Amir Temur, who amazed the whole world with his intelligence and incomparable talent, was raised and brought up. The fact that Shakhrisabz gave birth to prominent figures such as Khusrav Dekhlaviy, Mirzo Bedil, and Mirzo Gholib, who enormously contributed to global culture, also bears witness to the level of holiness of this land, added Mr. Karimov.

The head of UNESCO of Uzbekistan, Mr. Barry Lein, said that today Shakhrisabz draws attention to itself by dazzling the world with its unique charm. The ancient city has been added to the world heritage list. The opening ceremony was presided over by Governor of Kashkadarya Bakhtier Hamidov.

Old but forever young, today Shakhrisabz celebrates its 2700 anniversary. It has twelve cities and 142 villages. Such people as Khusrav Dekhaviy,Mirzo Bedil,Mirzo Gholib who enormously contributed to global culture and also bear witness to the significance of this land, were born here. It is mentioned in the pages of history that this land was one of the main routes for people travelling to Afghanistan,India, and Russia .

Uzbeks believe that Shakhrisabz will turn into a modern beautiful city and will be a center not only for agriculture, craftsmanship, and culture, but also of tourism.
