Sixty-five kilograms of heroin were seized by Bulgarian border police at a border crossing, authorities said Monday.
The drugs were found late Sunday in a Bulgarian truck crossing the border with Romania en route to Germany, police said in a statement.
The driver, identified as a 34-year-old Bulgarian citizen, was arrested and an investigation was under way.
Bulgaria, which joined the European Union in January, has intensified its border controls to crack down on smuggling and comply with EU standards.
