Moscow Hosts International Conference on Child Trafficking and Internet Pornography

An international conference on Child Trafficking and Internet Pornography is being held in Moscow on Sept. 26-28, MosNews correspondent reported. UNICEF representatives, Russian law enforcement authorities, MPs, FBI employees, U.S. federal prosecutors and trial attorneys from the U.S. and childrens’ rights activists took part in the meeting.

American authorities told their Russian counterparts about a so-called Operation Hamlet that led to detention of several pedophiles from a number of European countries. They were identified after a mailbox of the main defendant, Eggert Yensen, was broken open. Yensen and his wife were later found guilty of raping their 9-year-old daughter and selling pornography.

For his turn, a senior employee of Moscow’s Criminal Investigation Department Dmitriy Mironov told that his department has initiated several amendments into the Russian Criminal Code, introducing the definition of child porn.

According to the acting legislation, sexual attacks on children in Russia are not rated as serious crimes, that at the end of investigation makes only possible to accuse a suspect of lecherous actions, MosNews reported.
