Court ruled to cease activities of Limonka newspaper

The Hamovniki inter-municipal court of Moscow on Friday ruled to cease the activities of the Limonka newspaper, a press organ of the National Bolshevist party.

The newspaper's chief editor Alexei Volynets said he intended to appeal to the Moscow city court as early as on Monday. He does not agree with the press ministry's assessment of the newspaper's publications.

The court satisfied the suit of the Russian press ministry, which believed materials published in the Limonka aimed at kindling social intolerance and discord, calling for seizure of power, forcible change of the country's constitutional system and integrity, and propagandizing war.

The newspaper abuses the mass media freedom, thus violating the law "On Mass Media", the ministry pointed out in its suit.

The Limonka received two warnings in connection with materials it published, but did not change its editorial policy, the plaintiff added.

The complaints of the ministry were caused by a number of articles, including chapters for the book by the National Bolshevist party's leader Eduard Limonov "Another Russia".

During the trial the court conducted a linguistic expertise of the articles that justified the complaints.

At present Eduard Limonov and founder of the Limonka Sergei Axyonov are detained in connection with instituted criminal proceedings. The Federal Security Service charges them with a number of crimes under the Russian criminal code, such as preparation of terrorism acts, calls for forcible seizure of power and change of the state system. Four active members of the organization will face a trial on charges of illegal arms purchase.
