Mariinsky stages another opera on location

St.Petersburg's famous Mariinsky Theatre continues its recently revived tradition of staging performances on location. Today, the theatre, led by the world-renowned conductor Valegy Gergiyev, is playing Puccini's Turandot inside a medieval castle located in the town of Vyborg on the Baltic Sea shore near the Finnish border.

The performance precedes another production of Puccini's masterpiece scheduled to premier in Mariinsky on 25 and 27 July and staged by French director Charles Ruobaud.

Today's outdoor performance will be the theatre's second played in the 13th-century Vyborg castle. In June, the Mariinsky staged Musorgsky's "Boris Godunov" on the location.
