Moscow Road Police to Patrol in Airships

Head of the Transport and Communications Department in the Moscow government, Alexander Belyayev told journalists on Wednesday that at the beginning of 2004 two airships would start patrolling the Moscow ring road.

He said that the airships would be equipped with special facilities to control the road traffic; it will also react to traffic accidents. Each airship costs one million dollars. What is more, Moscow traffic police plans to raise several balloons with video cameras in the air over those parts of the city where traffic is the busiest. It is believed that the Navigation Center will improve traffic regulation; the Center will control traffic of ambulance, police cars and public transport. Alexander Belyayev explained that navigation systems help municipal services pick out the shortest way to the destination point and improve work of public transport.
