Odessa to become gay capital of Ukraine

A series of LGBT events is to be held in the city of Odessa in the middle of August.

During the events, a local LGBT organization, Odessa Pride 2015, is to discuss such issues as the attraction of gay tourists in the region and the creation of a dialogue between the LGBT community and the local population, local newspaper the Timer said.

"Gay tourism as part of Odessa regional branding" - this is one of the topics for the proposed discussions. The organizers of such events believe that the city of Odessa should become the gay capital of Ukraine. Nothing has been said about what exactly Odessa gays intend to do to attract gay tourists in the city.

On 15 August, Odessa gays intend to hold a street human rights action, at which they will apparently try to defend their rights and freedoms.

Last year, the LGBT community of Kiev failed to obtain permission for the gay pride parade in the Ukrainian capital. Ukrainian law enforcement agencies assumed that "The March of Equality Kiev Pride 2014" was too early for Kiev to deal with.
