St. Petersburg to host International Congress of Cultural Workers and Scientists

The International Congress of Cultural Workers and Scientists will open on Friday, May 23rd in the Marble Hall of the Russian Ethnographic museum in St Petersburg.

Some 300 scientists, cultural and art workers, artists, travellers from Russia, Italy, France, the USA and Switzerland are expected to attend the congress, the organising committee of the event disclosed.

Among the participants of the forum are Russian Minister of Culture Mikhail Shvydkoi, conducter Valery Gergiyev, film directors Aleksander Sokurov and Nikita Mikhalkov, writer Chingiz Aitmatov, Director of the State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky.

The forum will be held under the aegis "St. Petersburg - Cultural Capital of the World." It is presumed that this title will be given to St. Petersburg in the course of the congress.

The International Congress of Cultural Workers and Scientists will be closed on May 25th.
