Russia suggests forming consortium with Iran for the construction of electric power stations

Russia suggests creating a consortium with Iran to produce equipment and construct electric power plants in Iran and in third countries.

This initiative lies in the draft programme that was recently approved by the Russian government - The Long-Term Programme for the Development of Trade, Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran for the Period of up to 2012.

The draft programme also provides for cooperation with Iran in using non-traditional sources of electric energy /wind and sun/ and also in the construction of small hydroelectric power stations.

As the government information department pointed out, the draft programme had been coordinated with the Russian Foreign Ministry and other federal departments concerned. It envisages "an exchange of information about legislative acts that regulate foreign trade and economic cooperation in both countries, and also about export goods and the situation on the markets."
