New details of Borodin’s case: Russia’s Foreign Ministry advised him to fly to USA

In 20 minutes before the end of the registration for the flight “Moscow-New York” the State Secretary of Russia and Belarus Pavel Borodin turned in his ticket, because “diplomatic passport has not been delivered to him”, said Borodin’s wife Valentina Borodina in the show Podrobnosti (“Details”) on Russian television RTR. According to her, “Borodin changed his mind then because Russian Foreign Ministry officials phoned him and said: you may fly, we will send your passport by diplomatic mail.” “I know it for sure,” Valentina Borodina stressed. She also noted that FBI employees with the ratings of both civic and diplomatic passports had met Borodin in the New York airport”. Valentina Borodina does not know if her husband is going to file a counter claim for moral damage, caused to him. The wife of the State Secretary of Russia and Belarus stressed that Borodin “had never been summoned to Switzerland for giving evidence before”. She also noted that he “had never been hiding”. Besides, Borodina has said that if she were him, “she would refuse to give evidence”. But, off course, Borodin is the one who has to take the decision. Borodina also said that, according to the rules of the jail, where Borodin is being held, he could make five telephone calls a day. “I can hear his voice every day”, she said. She intends to go to USA, whatever the decision of the court will be. However Borodina hopes that letters by Russian PM Mikhail Kasyanov, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, speakers of both houses of Russian Parliament will influence the verdict. Answering the question, how the life of Borodins’ family changed after the head of the family had been detained, she answered that this event had not unsettled it. She works every day, because she has children and she should fulfil her duties to them. “I can’t relax”, Valentina Borodina said. At the same time, she called the people, who established some “fund of Pavel Borodin’s maintenance”, “adventurers”. They organised it within the framework of an exhibition of children’s pictures, and then send “a lot of bills for some computers” to Borodins’ flat.
