JAPAN TO PRODUCE ENERGY FROM SOLAR LIGHT IN SPACE

The Japanese government plans to produce electricity from solar power by 2040. It is planned to launch satellites into orbit with solar panels. These panels will capture solar energy and retransmit it to Earth. Preliminary studies are to begin in April. It is intended that the satellites will orbit at 36,000 kilometres from the Earth’s surface and that each will produce one million kilowatts per second, the same capacity as a nuclear power station.
