Notorious Chechen militant detained

The Prosecutor's Office of Ryazan has arrested 26-year-old Umar Vakhidov, a relative of well-known Chechen rebel commander Shamil Basayev. Vakhidov was an active member of a Chechen organized criminal group. According to information from law enforcement agencies, he controlled a substantial part of drug sales in the Ryazan Region and was responsible for transporting drugs from Chechnya to Russia as well as for the security of revenues received from these operations, RBC reports. He visited Chechnya every 3-4 months and freely traveled around that republic even during military operations. Vakhidov has been charged with drug trafficking, Radio Rossii (Radio of Russia) reports.
