Russian Duma Defense Committee Chairman Andrei Nikolayev met with Bruce George, chairman of the Defense Committee of the British House of Commons, today. A representative of the Duma Defense Committee told RBC that there had been "an interesting and useful discussion on the work of the committees" George pointed out that the law on defense in the UK is less detailed than in Russia. Thus, there are practically no laws on protection of the interests of servicemen in Britain. In this connection, the British lawmakers showed serious interest in the Russian laws on social issues that are being worked out or had already been adopted. Commenting on the problems of NATO, Nikolayev underlined that bilateral cooperation with NATO members is more important for Russia now than cooperation with this organization in general.
