Before spending a night behind the bars, Mr. Gusinski tried to prove that he was not subject to the Spanish jurisdiction because of not being “resident” of the country. However, Judge Baltasar Garzon found Mr. Gusinski’s reasons groundless as well as his attempts to present himself as a political prisoner. So, Russian media magnate Vladimir Gusinski spends his first night not in the elite prison Alcala-Meco, as was presumed by the Spanish media, but in Soto-del-Real, an ordinary prison. Yet, this prison has been built not long ago and is said to have all necessary conveniences, including solitary confinement cells. The Moscow unit of Interpol has confirmed that Mr. Gusinski is prosecuted on purely economic grounds and that he evades justice.
