RF Defense Minister to visit Japan

Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Igor Sergeyev has left for Japan today to pay an official visit to this country. The press service of the Defense Ministry informed RBC, that Sergeyev would negotiate with the head of the National Defense of Japan. The high-ranking officials of the two countries are supposed to share their opinions on defense policies of the countries and security problems in the Asian-Pacific region, they will discuss prospects for the bilateral Russian-Japanese military cooperation. In the course of the visit, which is to last by November 30, 2000, the Russian defense minister will visit Japan's navy bases.
