Former Siberian citizen Yevgeny Knyazev, who saved 70 people from the fire in the World Trade Center, was given the highest award of the Kemerovo region post mortem. Regional governor Aman Tuleyev handed the medal “For special contribution in the development of Kuzbass” to his mother Valentina Knyazeva, who now resides in the town of Polysayevo.
The governor said the 47-year-old engineer Yevgeny Knyazev was in charge of the life-support system of one of the high rise buildings. On September 11 he managed to take 70 people to the safe place during the first minutes after the act of terror happened. Knyazev had time to tell his wife and daughter about that over the phone. Yevgeny Knyazev died under the rubble of the enormous building saving other people.
