Russian Vice-Premier Khristenko To Discuss Trade-Economic Issues In Canada

On Wednesday in the afternoon Russian vice-premier Viktor Khristenko is leaving for Canada, where the fifth session of the Canadian-Russian economic commission will be held on November 1, the vice-premier's press-secretary Stanislav Naumov told RIA Novosti. He has recalled that Khristenko is the commission's co-chairman from the Russian side. In Naumov's words, raising the level of mutual trade, which has somewhat decreased this year, will be one of the main subjects at the forthcoming meeting of the commission. The sides are planning to draft a complex of measures to overcome the obstacles in the way to the further development of trade-economic and investment ties between our countries. Apart from that, Russia considers the anti-dumping duties, imposed in Canada against Russian steel, an acute problem. It is expected that in Canada Khristenko will also discuss the role of the World Trade Organization and Russia's forthcoming joining it. It is expected that reports by the working groups on cooperation between our countries in the field of fuel and power engineering, construction, the mining industry, as well as on cooperation in the agro-industrial complex will be presented at the meeting of the commission. Apart from that, it is planned to hear the report of the co-chairmen of the working group on cooperation in the Arctic and in the North.
