Statistics Committee Reports On Economically Active Population Of Russia

According to the State Statistics Committee, economically active population of Russia reached 71.3m people or about 50% of the total population by the end of October 2001. Among them are 65.1m people (91.3%) occupied in the economy and 6.2m (8.7%), who are not occupied in the economy but were actively looking for a job. 1m unemployed people were registered by state unemployment agencies, i.e. 1.4% of the economically active population. In October 2001, 222,300 people were declared unemployed (18% more compared to October 2000).
