Trains clash kills six in India

A freight train rammed into a stationery passenger train in India's eastern state of Jharkhand on Wednesday, killing at least six people and injuring 40, officials said. The collision occurred at Barwadi station, 185 kilometers (115 miles) south of Patna, the capital of Bihar state, said railway official S. Toppo.

Six bodies were found and 40 people were treated for injuries, said Dr. A.K. Das, a government surgeon at the area's biggest hospital, according to the AP.

Four train cars were badly damaged, he said.

Every day, at least 13 million people use India's accident-plagued state-run rail network. About 300 accidents involving trains occur in India each year, with most blamed on lax safety standards.
