Up to armed provocations all nights through, Albanian rebels opened fire last night in Tetotvo, dozens of villages outside the city and in the vicinity of the town of Kumanovo. Over the curfew from 10:30 p.m. to 05: a.m. local time, they managed to smash several Tetovo cafes belonging to Macedonians. Meanwhile, the Macedonian authorities have decided to lift the curfew in Kumanovo and the suburbs, which was introduced several months ago when armed clashes between government forces and Albanian extremists were frequent. Skopje, however, offers no comments on the reasons why mixed police patrols consisting of three Macedonians and three Albanians have not yet assumed the job of 24-hour village inspection.
